a little explanation...   

O.B.E.R. stands for: Objective Beer-tasters of the Essen Region. O.B.E.R. is a foundation of beer-lovers and one of the more than 20 local clubs of the Belgian confederation of beer-tasters Zythos vzw www.zythos.be

Our club was founded because we care about our fantastic Belgium beer culture. It appears that most Belgians are no longer aware of their own great beer culture and they only drink beer of the better-known lager brands, while the strength of our beer culture is the huge range of beers, which we can find at more than a hundred breweries we can boast of. Our aim is to ensure that the small breweries do not disappear. This would mean a loss of our traditional and artisan beer culture.

We aim:  

• to maintain the Belgium beer culture

• to organise and stimulate projects to raise awareness of Belgian beers and to promote the taste as part of our national heritage and culture

• to complain about irregularities with respect to the consumer

Every year we organise different activities, which include:

• At least three beer-tasting courses

• Several day-trips

• Gastronomic member's banquet in January

• The much-appreciated Christmas beer festival 

If you're a member of O.B.E.R., you're automaticly a member of the national Beer Unions Confederation 'Zythos vzw' and will receive every 3 months 'De Zyhtoloog' , a magazine by Zythos which contains lots of interesting news from the world of beer.

O.B.E.R. also has it's own magazine, published every two months. Please notice that both magazines are in Dutch only.

Membership fee is 15 Euro for members who live in Belgium, and 25 or 30 Euro for people who live abroad. for 25 Euro OBER'tje will only send by snail-mail, For 30 Euro it will be send by e-mail. (.pdf) De Zytholoog will always be sent by snail mail.
